Dr. Shay was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Sharon Thornton and the late Robert Dale Thornton Sr. She spent her early childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, before relocating to Atkinson, North Carolina, at age 14. Today, Dr. Shay resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
A devoted mother, Dr. Shay is the proud parent of three daughters: Shantaira, Zariyah, and the late Chloe. She is the grandmother of Syo’nishyah. She attended Pender High School and pursued higher education in Criminal Justice at Cape Fear Community College and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Driven by her passion for spiritual growth, she earned a Master of Theology and a Doctorate of Ministry with a concentration in Biblical Counseling from Kingdom University International.
 
Dr. Shay is the Founder and Pastor of The GLUE Ministry. Dr. Shay is a multifaceted leader, recognized as a Prophetess, Pastor, Published Author, Paralegal, Auditor, Gospel Songwriter, and former Flight Attendant. Her literary contributions include six books available on Amazon: I Love Being A Girl, Take Me I’m Yours: A Guide for Godly Dating, I Prayed for You: 70 Days of Prayers for Your Current or Future Mate, I Love Being A Girl: The Workbook, I Love Being A Girl: The Workbook - 2.0, I Love Being A Girl: The Workbook – Teen Edition, and Sis, I Got You: 30 Days of the Word & Words of Encouragement.
 
Passionate about serving her community, Dr. Shay has volunteered with numerous organizations, including The Good Shepherd, The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, Houston Moore Housing Development, Port City Rip the Runway, and The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department.
